The People’s Choice Awards, hosted this year by Lynch, honor the year’s pop-culture favorites from movies, TV, music, gaming and social media.
Lynch, whose CBS comedy Angel from Hell debuts Thursday (Jan. 7), kicked off the awards show with a dance number parodying songs including « Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) » and Walk the Moon’s « Shut Up and Dance. »
Calling herself a « slightly more masculine Neil Patrick Harris, » Lynch followed up her song and dance with a monologue, calling out People’s Choice voters. « You’re the ones who watched a rat dragging a pizza down a flight of stairs 9 million times, » she said. « You’re the ones who made the man bun an OK thing for a dude to wear. »
Later in the show, Ellen DeGeneres received the People’s Choice Favorite Humanitarian Award, which gifts her with a $100,000 donation from Walgreens that she is passing on to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The award comes just days after DeGeneres’ high-rated talk show was renewed through 2020.
Accepting the award from Melissa McCarthy, DeGeneres started her speech by asking, « Would I call myself the Mother Teresa of talk shows, the Dalai Lama of daytime? No. But I’m sure someone out there has. » Adding that she certainly never « set out to receive any of the many, many, many, many awards I have received over the years. » She said it’s strange to get an award for being nice and kind, which she sees is « the point of being a human. »
Near the end of the night, the show had its own Kanye West-VMAs moment when an audience member jumped on stage and grabbed the mic from the co-hosts of The Talk, who were accepting their award for favorite daytime TV hosting team.

Début septembre, les chaînes américaines ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS et The CW proposeront leurs nouveautés ainsi que les nouvelles saisons de leurs séries. Mais à quelles dates ?
Les sériephiles s’activent déjà. Le 7 septembre prochain, la chaîne FOX donnera le coup d’envoi de la rentrée télévisée des grands networks américains. Et c’est avec la télé-réalité événement « Utopia » que la chaîne lancera la saison 2014-2015. Les télé-réalités mises à part, ce sont les comédies qui ouvriront le bal, le 16 septembre prochain sur FOX avec la saison 4 de « New Girl » ainsi que la saison 3 de « The Mindy Project ». Le lendemain, la chaîne lancera la nouveauté « Red Band Society » tandis que CBS fera sa rentrée dès le 21 septembre avec la saison 6 de « The Good Wife » et la nouveauté « Madam Secretary ».
La semaine du 22 au 28 septembre est de loin la plus chargée avec 7 nouveautés (dont les évenements « Gotham« , « NCIS: New Orleans » et « How to Get Away with Murder »), 25 retours de séries (« Grey’s Anatomy« , « Scandal« , « Revenge« , « Les Simpson« , « Bones« , « Modern Family« , « NCIS« , « Blacklist« …) et 4 télé-réalités. La semaine suivante est elle aussi bien remplie, avec le retour de « Castle » et d' »Esprits criminels » ainsi que le lancement de plusieurs grosses séries, comme le thriller « Stalker » et « Gracepoint« , le remake américain de la série britannique à succès « Broadchurch ».
Enfin, par la suite, The CW entrera tardivement dans la course avec le retour de ses séries et le lancement, le 7 octobre, de « The Flash« , dont le pilote a fuité sur Internet. Il faudra en revanche attendre le 13 octobre pour découvrir « Jane the Virgin » et le 24 octobre pour l’adaptation de « Constantine« , sur NBC cette fois. Enfin, en raison de la nouvelle case football du jeudi, CBS déplacera en début de saison « The Big Bang Theory » notamment dans la case du lundi, ne permettant à « 2 Broke Girls » un retour que le 27 octobre. Enfin, la première partie de la saison s’achèvera avec le lancement le 17 novembre sur NBC de « State of Affairs », nouvelle série portée par Katherine Heigl.
