Danica Patrick finishes career-best 6th after G-W-C craziness in Atlanta

Toujours pas de victoire mais c’est bien ce qu’elle fait malgré tout, c’est pas simple.

No win again for now but she’s improving it’s good because it’s not easier for her.

MotorSportsTalk

In her best drive of the season, Danica Patrick finished sixth Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway – a new career-best result for her in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Her previous best had been a seventh at Kansas this past May.

« That race felt like it was 700 miles, » Patrick told ESPN. « Sometimes when you’re running well, they feel like that because you’re just hoping it stays there and it keeps going well, you keep improving, you don’t lose it.

« And there were definitely a couple of times later in the race where we fell back. The middle of the race, the car was very good and it took a little step back. But it came back at the end and [crew chief Tony] Gibson just reset everything to where we were when we were running well. »

Patrick had been running in the lower reaches of the Top 10…

Kenseth clinches Chase berth; Bowyer falls out of Grid with one race to go

MotorSportsTalk

Kasey Kahne wasn’t the only driver that clinched a Chase berth Sunday night at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Matt Kenseth was vanquished by Kahne in the second green-white-checkered attempt, but the runner-up performance was more than enough to punch his own ticket to the 2014 post-season.

Kenseth put himself at the front of the field with a two-tire stop going into the first GWC attempt. However, that ended with a multi-car incident that involved the dominant driver of the night, Kevin Harvick (led 195 laps, finished 19th).

That brought about the second attempt, where Kahne charged from third at the green flag and pulled alongside Kenseth on the outside before clearing him.

« I had a really good restart on the first time, » Kenseth said to ESPN afterwards. « I was hoping it went green there because Paul [Menard] was in there and I think the 5 [Kahne] and the 4 [Kevin Harvick]…

Feelin’ free: Frustrations end for Chase-bound Kahne, IndyCar champ Power

MotorSportsTalk

When I sit down to crank out these posts for MotorSportsTalk, I usually have my headphones plugged in to listen to music.

As I figure it goes with some of you, music is one of my favorite hobbies outside the laptop. I don’t pluck a guitar and I haven’t sang in a choral ensemble since college. But I still enjoy discovering new sounds when I can.

However, I also enjoy the classics. One of my favorites in that category is Cream’s « I Feel Free, » that delightful ’60s smash-up of pop, blues, and psychedelia.

And I can’t help but think that the song fits with the final outcomes from this weekend’s major events – last night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta and Saturday’s Verizon IndyCar Series championship finale at Fontana.

Because Atlanta winner Kasey Kahne and first-time IndyCar champion Will Power have to be feeling free of their own…

IndyCar: Power leads award winners during series championship celebration

MotorSportsTalk

Sunday night’s Verizon IndyCar Series championship celebration was a good one – it will air Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN after a re-air of Saturday night’s MAVTV 500 at Auto Club Speedway at 8 p.m. ET. NBCSN lead commentator Leigh Diffey hosted the event.

Here’s the text recap from INDYCAR – I’ll put together more thoughts on the season, the celebration and in particular champion Will Power’s speech later in the week.

LOS ANGELES (Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014) – Less than 24 hours after winning the Verizon IndyCar Series championship, Will Power got his chance to celebrate.

Power – along with other drivers, teams and manufacturers – were recognized during the INDYCAR Championship Celebration at Club Nokia at the LA Live entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles.

Mark Miles, CEO of Hulman & Co., the parent of INDYCAR, presented Power and team owner Roger Penske with a…
