ICE HOCKEY – July 25th – Canada vs USA, Rod Laver Arena Melbourne AUS

ice hock banner

Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena may seem like a strange venue for a collosal ice hockey grudge match. And it was fairly safe to say that no-one in the crowd was expecting Gretzky, Federov or Lemieux to be turning out either. In fact a Kane, Quick or Boychuck would have sufficed; instead we got to experience the talents of Zenon Konopka, Emerson Etem, Tyler Bunz and Andrew Gordon (a late replacement for the world renown Kyle Quincey). When I heard the line-ups for the two teams those immortal lines from Major League were ringing through my ears – « Not bad for a couple of has-beens and never-will-bes » – which is essentially what these two teams were.

The teams were playing for the prestigious Douglas Webber Cup. Yes; I’ve never heard of it either, or him for that matter. Upon further research it seems like the promoter of the series has effectively…

Becky Hammon: le choix innovateur des Spurs

Passions De Salon

Thought for today august 10th 2014

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”

« To See a World…. »

imageRaindrop and leaf, Woodbury, Connecticut © Steven Willard

When I stopped to photograph this drop of water captured on a palm leaf, I was reminded of the first line of William Blake’s poem, « To See a World in a Grain of Sand ». But as often happens, I heard more in my head than what was actually written.

Wally and I had been out for his evening constitutional when I saw this leaf with the last drop of rain from an afternoon shower. It only took a moment to put Wally’s leash on the ground where I could keep a foot on it to free my hands to make a few photographs; an impromptu act I didn’t want spoil with a tripod.

To be honest, I didn’t remember that the poet was William Blake, and at the moment it didn’t matter. What was/is of interest to me was that I was…

Everyday is Sunday

Author K.D. Bloodworth

PICT0003_Fotor_Collage free weekend

I’m not kidding anyone!  I never thought I would live this long.  Never even crossed my mind that one day I would be pushing 65!  My parents tried to tell me I would get old one day and me knowing everything at the time, I knew they were crazy!  Why they weren’t even that old yet, how could they know?  I couldn’t even imagine that one day, everyday would be Sunday!

I am now living when I have no schedules, other than the ones I put on myself.  I’m doing my best to maintain those just to hair cuts, doctor’s appointments and things to do with my husband and my mom.  No longer do I make sure by Sunday night all my work outfits are cleaned and pressed for the next work week.  I never thought I would become the woman who irons an outfit just before it’s worn.  But here…

Branched Out

I’m sure there is a time and place where most of us have felt somewhat overwhelmed by the jumbled mess that we call our minds. « Overthinking » has become a popular term for many, but it might not always be a bad thing. Although our thoughts may not initially feel very organized, they might all have somewhat of a purpose and connection within every individual.
