In the last 5 seasons Toulon, Montpellier, Clermont, Toulouse, Racing Metro and Castres have dominated the top 6.
With previously established clubs Biarritz and Perpignan now relegated and Clermont and Toulouse both losing home knockout games last season, there has been a shift in power in the league.
2013/14 did see Stade Francais, Bordeaux Begles and Brive all threaten to break into that top 6 group though and with 8 points separating Toulouse in 4th to Brive in 9th it did prove to be a much closer competition than in previous years.
While it remained a league with a high home win rate (around 80% last season), there did seem to be a change in attitude in how away trips were approached and that combined with the promoted sides being tough to beat might explain the spread of points.
